Hey there!
My name is Karis (Kah-REES) and I am a musician who has been traveling the world since the day I owned my first passport (over 20 years ago!). I started this blog with the goal to inspire others to travel, share information on places I have been, and hopefully use it as my own inspiration to keep traveling and sharing the world with others!
I was born in Michigan where I learned from an early age to correct people on the pronunciation of my Greek name (Kah-REES), as well as developing a love for travel and camping with my family. After graduating from university with a music performance degree, I moved to Kenya, where I spent the next 9 years teaching music and traveling as much as possible.
While in Kenya, I met my future husband, Andreas, who also shares a love of traveling with me. Together, we have been exploring this amazing world and hope to keep traveling for as long as we are able!
Currently, I am based in Berlin , Germany. When I’m not traveling I teach music and am also a classical performer on the violin. I also dabble in writing and photography when I have time.
More things about me:
- I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do
- I play violin, viola, cello, piano, and Scottish bagpipes (really)
- I love curling up with a good book
- I am passionate about creating positive social change through teaching music (check out a music project I founded called El Sistema Kenya for more information)
- I qualified for the Olympic time trials to compete in swimming when I was 13
- I love the great outdoors and spend a lot of time hiking, kayaking, triathlon training and racing, and camping
